Historic Green - Spring Greening 2010!
Green homes. Green spaces. Green community. For two weeks this March, hundreds of students and young professionals will converge on New Orleans – bringing their energy and ideas to help the people of the Holy Cross neighborhood of the Lower Nine to revitalize their community. They are architects, engineers, planners, landscape architects, interior designers and contractors who’ll work hand in hand with neighborhood residents on their historic houses, parks, playgrounds and community centers. Rebuilding and recovery are just a beginning for this historic neighborhood in one of America’s oldest cities. The neighborhood of Holy Cross in the Lower Nine has aims to be carbon neutral by the year 2020 and climate neutral by 2030. Nowhere else in the world, perhaps, is this more possible than the Lower Ninth Ward.
We are excited at the Triangle Emerging Green Builders to be organizing a group of professionals and students to attend this year’s event. This event is in its third year of operation and was developed by members of the Emerging Green Builders National Committee. This year Historic Green is planning exciting projects for the continuing revitalization of the Lower Nine. It is a great opportunity to get hands on experience in historic preservation and green design. We have several members of the Triangle EGB who are actively participating on the planning committee for the event and would love to see the Triangle being represented with one of the largest volunteer groups there!
Anyone interested in either volunteering or helping fund our group’s effort in attending Historic Green please contact either Caroline Davenport at davenport102@hotmail.com or Jeff Woodhead at jeffwoodhead@gmail.com. Travel and Accommodation arrangements need to be made as soon as possible so please contact us with any questions.
