City of Raleigh Environmental Awards

Interested in submitting your company, organization, or project for the City of Raleigh’s Environmental Awards? See the release below (application can be found online at the website listed below). Awards will be given in multiple categories (see below). The submission deadline has been extended to December 31st.

The City of Raleigh is accepting nominations for the 2009 Environmental Awards and wants to recognize outstanding work in sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Select the award category and answer the brief questions. Submissions are accepted via the web or mail.

Awards are given to organizations or individuals in 10 categories:
  • The Raleigh Environmental Stewardship Award is an overall award for an individual or organization that has shown leadership in sustainable development;
  • Environmental Awareness (Leadership or Teaching) --- demonstrated leadership or teaching others about the environment;
  • Legacy Award --- lifelong contribution to the environment by a person or an organization
  • Natural Resource Conservation --- water, wastewater, reuse water, residuals and biosolids, air quality, stormwater;
  • Green Design (Built Environment) --- Stormwater, recycling, sedimentation and erosion controls, construction debris reuse, energy innovation, ecological footprint;
  • Regional Award --- air quality, Neuse River basin or other regional issues;
  • Pioneering Efforts - in any environmental area;
  • Youth --- school youth, may be given to more than one person or group. Awards may be given to many different educational levels;
  • Urban Stewardship Award --- a volunteer individual or organization engaged in community building or conservation; and,
  • Market Transformation Award --- manufacturers, retailers, or marketers who promote products, services and choices that lessen the impact on the environment and health.

To be eligible for consideration nominees must either be residents of or operate within the City of Raleigh or within the City’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) or its utility service area. Elected officials are not eligible while they are serving in public office.

The selection of award winners will be by an eight-person jury. Winners will be honored at a ceremony on Earth Day, which is April 22, 2009.
